Spooky Empire’s Screamfest in Orlando this past weekend was full of zombies...and other costumed creepies and hotties. Spooky Empire puts on a great horror convention and it includes a zombie walk starting at the Friday’s Sports Bar across the street from the Wyndham Resort. Met John Landis before the zombie walk. He showed up to view a rendition of Michael Jackson's Thriller video done by local kids and two “Michaels”, an early one and a faded one. I missed the Max Brooks panel discussing the “NOT FUNNY” Zombie Survival Guide that he wrote. Incidentally, Max didn’t write it to be funny; he wrote it as a serious view of what it could be like to live after a zombie infestation. But, got to chat with Max Brooks on Sunday. Max has definitely got a great career going as a writer and personality. He filled in for George Romero's panel since George couldn’t make it with an impersonation of George and conducted a short question and answer session between himself and himself and George. One word "funny". The band Ghoultown (photos), all the way from Texas, was the headliner and played Saturday night. They put on a great show again. There were all genres of horror film actors, directors, and writers at the show as guests. The nights were long and the days quite short…and humid but the weekend was fun. If you missed it this year, gear up for next year and attend. It is worth the price of admission just to experience the vibe from all the horror fans at the show.
